Shanon McKimmie
Discipline: Reining and Dressage
Describe an average day: My day typically starts at 7am with feeding and checking on all the horses, then after I’ve had some breaky myself ill drag the arena and get on with riding the 8 horses on my list ranging from 2yo reining horses through to FEI Dressage horses. Depending on the day ill also coach a lesson or 2 in amongst that before feeding and tucking everyone in for the night which I aim to get done before dark but that’s not always the case!
Your Horses: Lethal Little Lady (Derby reining horse), Malocchio (Futurity reining horse), Starflower (5yo Dressage horse), and Remi Don Juan (6yo Dressage horse).
Best thing about your horses: They each have their own quirks and personalities but most of all the above horses are all talented beyond belief in their individual fields and bring me so much joy to train and compete for myself and their owners.
Goals for 26/27: My 26/27 goals are to continue to produce my team of horses and attend all the major reining and dressage competitions on the calendar.
Ultimate Goals: Most of my major short and long term goals are in the reining pen actually, I’ve been blessed to do some incredible things in my dressage career, from training and competing in Europe, to having a world ranking and everything in-between so that will take a slight back seat as I make way for those same goals in the reining pen and with a US trip on the horizon I’m hoping this opens some opportunities to take my goals to the biggest stages possible.
